[From the NME Awards ceremony, where Radiohead turned up to receive an award for the Best Band of 2000]

How does it feel to be voted Best Band by NME readers?

Ed O'Brien: I was thinking we were here seven years ago, when they first started doing the Brats and, did we win anything? (Colin Greenwood and Phil Selway tell him they did) Yeah, we did. This is really good. Awards ceremonies - on a bad day you can't be fucking bothhered to turn up. On a good day, this is really nice, lot of nice people, free drinks. It's a readers poll - that's why all these bands are here.

Is Amnesiac going to win you an NME award next year?

Phil: I haven't got a crystal ball for that one. I don't know, we're very satisfied with this one for the moment.

Who should have won Best Band?

Ed: I really like the Doves first record - that was great. Are they here? No? Oh, they're probably doing a Radiohead.

Phil: It's a shame Britney Spears didn't get Best Pop Act.

What was your favourite album of 2000?

Ed: I really like the Grandaddy album, I thought that was really good.

Phil: The PJ Harvey album too.

And single?

Ed: The one by Craig David and Artful Dodger, definitely.

Phil: Has to be.

Who would be your hero/ Godlike Genius?

Ed: We were in the studio most of last year.

Colin: We don't get out much. Football it has to be for you - Manchester United.

Ed: I'm an Oxford Red you see; they're all heroes, especially Wesley Brown.

And villain?

Ed: Probably just the usual; the usual likely contenders, like Mandelson. But they're easy pickings.
