Jonny: “I remember finding it annoying at Fall concerts in 1987, 88. It’s 10 years on and people are still spreading their body odour around…”
“Moshing is too much about ego,” Ed concludes. “These people want to get a rise out of you. ‘Look at me! Here I am! I’m going to give the bird to the lead singer!’ It’s also distracting for us. I don’t think we’ve done really good shows when we’ve had all that moshing ‘cause we’ve been too concerned about what’s going on down there.”
Ed: "Well no, sorry, I went to...it was irrelevant...the university was kind of irrelevant. I went to Manchester cause of the music from the city, primarily because of the Smiths, and the Smiths, and the Smiths, and also obviously New Order and The Fall.
His favourite orchestrator currently is Penderecki, but his first big hero was Messaien. "It was like a pop thing. Being at school and realising he was still alive, I equated him with the bands I liked at the time, the Fall and Sonic Youth."
