O multiinstrumentista brasileiro Mauro Refosco, percussionista de David Byrne e membro do grupo Forro in the Dark, revela que shows de “superbanda” de Thom Yorke vão ter aproximadamente 75 minutos e terão repertório do álbum “The Eraser” (2006) tocado na íntegra.

Refosco foi anunciado pelo vocalista do Radiohead como membro de seu novo grupo, que conta ainda com o baixista Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), o baterista Jay Waronker (R.E.M., Beck e Smashing Pumpkins) e produtor Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Beck e Paul McCartney). “Conheci o Thom em Londres em junho, quando estava na cidade em turnê com o David Byrne. Ele estava com ideia de fazer uns shows em Los Angeles”, revela Refosco, que foi indicado para a banda pelo baterista Jay Waronker. “Jay é um cara que eu conheço desde 2001. Aí ele se lembrou de mim e deu um toque pro Thom Yorke”.

O brasileiro será percussionista da banda d e Thom Yorke e irá recriar ao vivo os sons do álbum “The Eraser”, considerados “difíceis” pelo músico. “Já estamos ensaiando há duas semanas. Acabamos de entrar na terceira semana de ensaios. É bem pop, mas ao mesmo tempo a música do Thom é bem complicada, com muitos detalhes que estamos resolvendo ao vivo”.

O repertório das duas apresentações anunciadas por Thom Yorke, que acontecem nos dias 4 e 5 de outubro, em Los Angeles, será basicamente o primeiro solo do vocalista do Radiohead, “The Eraser”. “Vamos tocar todas as músicas do ‘The Eraser’, do começo ao fim, e uma do Radiohead. Vamos tocar ainda quatro músicas inéditas. Mais ou menos uns 75 minutos de show”, avisa Refosco.

Por enquanto o grupo, que ainda não possui nome, não pretende realizar novas apresentações. “A ideia que ele [Thom Yorke] tinha era de não se comprometer, caso não rolasse de acertar a banda. O lance dele era colocar essas pessoas para tocar juntas”, explica.

Refosco não poupa elogios ao baixista Flea e ao produtor Nigel Godrich. “Ele [Flea] é um puta músico, baixista de rock’n’roll, funk. É sensacional, super dinâmico, saca muito de música”, afirma. “Conheci eles [Yorke e Godrich] quando saímos para jantar em Londres. Já sacava o trabalho do Nigel há muito tempo. Li uma entrevista uma vez dele falando como era trabalhar com o Paul McCartney. Sou super fã do disco ‘Mutations’ do Beck, que foi produzido por ele. Esse disco é genial”.

Forro in the Dark
Mauro Refosco moram em Nova York desde 1992. O brasileiro é um dos integrantes do grupo Forro in the Dark, que como o nome já diz toca o ritmo eternizado por Luiz Gonzaga, inclusive fazendo algumas versões de suas canções.

Depois de excursionar durante um ano com David Byrne (de agosto de 2008 a agosto de 2009), Refosco se prepara para lançar o terceiro álbum do Forro in the Dark, “Light A Candle”, previsto para ser lançado no dia 12 de outubro.

Mauro Refosco is living in New York since 1992. He is one of the members of the group Forro in the Dark, which as the name says, is a homage to the music created by Luiz Gonzaga.
