Ontem correu o mundo a notícia de que Thom York estava montando uma superbanda para tocar seu primeiro disco solo, The Eraser, lançado em 2006. Os nomes estelares da banda eram o produtor do Radiohead Nigel Godrich, e Flea, o baixista do Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Mas na cozinha a coisa também esquenta, com o baterista Joey Waronker e o percussionista catarinense e blogueiro da Trip Mauro Refosco. Para entender a dimensão deste novo projeto e também para falar de novidades do Forro In the Dark, do qual faz parte, Refosco, que acaba de participar da turnê européia de David Byrne, conversou com a Trip por telefone, de Los Angeles, onde está ensaiando para os shows do dia 4 e 5 de outubro.

Como o Thom York chegou até você?
O Thom estava a fim de tocar ao vivo o The Eraser. Como o disco tem muita programação com beats bem quebrados, um baterista só não ia conseguir reproduzir tudo, e ele não queria usar samplers. Eu já conhecia o Joey, que é o baterista, e ele me chamou para o grupo.

E vocês estão ensaiando faz tempo?
Há umas duas semanas, aqui em Los Angeles.

Como é trabalhar com o Thom Yorke? Quais os desafios de fazer o Eraser ao vivo?
O Thom é bem tranquilo. Uma coisa interessante em relação ao Eraser é que ele realmente escuta tudo o que é beat de um jeito próprio, que não é muito certo, mas é o que está na cabeça dele. É orgânico para ele.

Você já ouvia Radiohead?
Sim, adoro Ok Computer, ouvi o Amnesiac bastante e vi o show deles no ano passado. Impressionante.

E como o Flea se encaixa nesse projeto?
A gente tem aquela imagem do Red Hot, do slap, do funk, mas ele é um cara supereducado. Toca trumpete também, tem um lance com o jazz, saca super de harmonia. Sabia que ele toca com o Ornette Coleman de vez em quando? Ele é um supermúsico que encaixa bem, não é só um baixista.

Além do Eraser, vão rolar outras coisas?
Vão ter duas músicas novas do Thom York, "Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses" e "The Hollow Earth". E também "Paperback Writer".

E o Forro in the Dark, tem novidades?
Sim, vamos lançar o disco novo no dia 13 de outubro. Vai sair por um selo da revista National Geographic. E daí a gente sai em turnê pelos Estados Unidos e pela Europa.

Alguma chance de voltar ao Brasil?
Ainda não tem nada programado. Terminamos a turnê no verão daí e no verão nada funciona, né? [Risos.]

Yesterday the news ran around the world that Thom Yorke had put together a supergroup to play his first solo album, The Eraser, released in 2006. Among the stellar names were Radiohead's producer Nigel Godrich, and Flea, Red Hot Chilli Peppers' bassist. But the kitchen was also heating, with drummer Joey Waronker and percussionist and Trip's blogger, Mauro Refosco. To understand the scale of this new project and also to talk about news of Forro in the Dark, Refosco, who just finished the European tour with David Byrne, talks with Trip by phone from Los Angeles, where he is rehearsing for the concerts on 4 and 5 October.

How did Thom Yorke come to you?
Thom wanted to play The Eraser live. As the album has a lot of programming with broken beats just a drummer wasn't going to be able to play everything and he didin't want to use samplers. I already knew Joey, who is the drummer, and he called me to be part of the group.

For how long are you rehearsing?
A couple of weeks here in Los Angeles.

How is to work with Thom Yorke? What are the challenges of playing The Eraser live?
Thom is very quiet. One thing that's interesting about The Eraser is that he really listens to all those beats in his own way, not the right way, but in the way they sound in his head. It's organic for him.

Have you heard Radiohead?
Yes, I love OK Computer, I heard Amnesiac a lot and saw their show last year. Awesome.

And how does Flea fit into this project?
We have that image of Red Hot, the slap, funk, but he is a very well rounded guy. He also plays trumpet, likes to jazz, has a good take on harmony. Did you know he plays with Ornette Coleman sometimes? He is a super musician that fits well, not just a bass player.

Aside from The Eraser, what more will you play?
There will be two new songs from Thom Yorke, "Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses" and "The Hollow Earth". And also "Paperback Writer".

Any news about Forro in the Dark?
Yes, we will release the new album on October 13. And then we will go out on tour in the United States and Europe.

Any chance of returning to Brazil?
Do not have anything scheduled. We finished the tour in the summer and then in the summer nothing works, right? [Laughs.]
