Colin: Good evening, everybody! My name is Colin Greenwood and I'm in the band Radiohead. [gestures behind himself] That's the stage over there. And I'm very proud to be the global ambassador for Children's Radio Foundation. I wish I could be there tonight with you guys and with Mike and Nina, but I'm afraid I'm on tour, in Washington DC. So I've just recorded a few words to tell you about my involvement with the charity and the work that Mike and Nina have been doing.
Colin: A few years ago, there was a friend of mine who was working with the charity, called Charlotte, who told me about it. And I was very interested in helping out cause I've always been a big fan of radio, growing up. And it sounded like a very interestging, a very interesting charity to support. After what Mike and Nina have been saying tonight, I would like to pick up on a few things that I think are wonderful about what they are doing. One of the things is the power of reporting, the quality of the recording and the access to accurate information that the young journalists and reporters are carrying out in Africa is incredibly valuable. And the work that Mike and Nina are supporting with the charity is wonderful.
Colin: Also what I'm very impressed with and supportive of is just the power of radio in Africa because it's such an important medium and it's still the most widespread medium used in Africa. And it reaches places and people the way newspapers and the internet still struggle to reach. So it's a very valuable, longstanding tool which can help people in communities in the future.
Colin: And the other thing that I think is wonderful about CRF is the training whcih I'm sure Mike and Nina talked about tonight. And the training of the young reporters and broadcasters, and the skills that they're learning which would serve them fantastically well in the future.
Colin: I think that's pretty much what I wanted to say. Apart from personal reasons [that] growing up, radio was a big part of my life and my family's life and my kids' lives, too, now that I've got three boys of my own. [I am] very, very proud to be involved with the charity and best of luck and thank you very much.
