This track was originally written for the Fall/Winter 2011 Rag & Bone Fashion Collection in New York, dating the track's origins to likely 2010. Jonny Greenwood is also credited on this track. The middle portion re-uses audio from 'Eraser Infinite Mk2', which is Thom's remix of his earlier track 'The Eraser'.
In March 2013, Thom and Nigel arranged a DJ mix for BBC Radio 1. Their mix included a version of this track, titled "Twist (Unfinished Section B)". The track segued into Has Been, which makes it hard to understand where one track ends and the other begins.
Throughout 2015, Thom and Nigel played a few gigs in support of Tomorrow's Modern Boxes. Among an assortment of songs from Thom's solo records, they also played four previously unreleased songs: 'Traffic', 'Not The News', 'Twist' and 'Impossible Knots'. Versions from here on out contain a new outro section. This performance comes from the Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris on october 30th 2015:
In December 2017, Thom and Nigel played a few more gigs in support of Tomorrow's Modern Boxes, which were also used to road test a number of new songs, including the never previously performed 'I am a Very Rude Person', '(Ladies & Gentlemen, Thank You for Coming)', which was then titled 'Two Feet Off the Ground', and 'Saturdays', which was the name given to the outro section of 'Twist' at the time.
